How many words does the average 18 month old?

My daughter has about 30 words and makes 6 different animal sounds.

That sounds good.  When my daughter was evaluated for speech therapy when she was 22 months, they expected her to have 20 words.

Every child is so different. My son had easily 50 words at 18 months and hes two now and talks a ton. Some kids have just a few words at 18 months. My friends pediatrician said as long as they have 8 words and know what they're saying and can point to body parts, and understand basic commands then they are right on track as she was worried about her daughter's speech.

My oldest didn't say a word before he was 2,5, but he understood everything and followed commands etc. My youngest say like 40+ words that us parents understand, and 20or so that others would understand, and follows instructions and can point at things when asked.

Our pediatrician said as long as they have 5-10 words then there isnt a concern. My 20 month old only has probably 10 words that she uses!
