Litter box question

Okay so I have a two year cat. And I recently bought her a new litterbix because i read that no matter how many times you bleach it the pee smell will always be there(to the cat) and they may stop using it. Litter hox has always been in our bathroom and thats where i put Lunas new one same place. I also decided to put her old one in the basement(she likes to hide in the basement when my daughter wont leave her alone). When I got up this morning I saw she hadnt been in her new box at all but I happened to see that she did use the old one. Is this normal? Im sorry if its a silly question.
