Do you qualify for unemployment if you take a leave of absence due to covid?

I reapplied for unemployment and I took a leave of absence due to covid. The nature of my job wasn’t safe. Now unemployment in the state of GA is saying that I didn’t qualify for those benefits and the have to repay. Have anyone else had this issue? Or know anything about this?

As far as I know unemployment benefits are for people who do not leave their jobs voluntarily. Seems like you did leave voluntarily, so that could be the reason.

You have to make sure you understand the conditions per state you live in. In most places, unemployment due to covid is only valid when you are out of work on an involuntary basis. In my province in Canada for example, I came into contact with someone who was a close contact with a covid positive case. Public Health deemed me ok to work. My work didn't want to take the risk and gave my hours away, but I was able to make up the hours in unemployment for those 2 weeks I was off work due to involuntary basis.
