Where do you take your car for maintenance or repairs?

And why? What is the best option if you have to decide between the dealership and a chain/shop?

I go to a small, family owned auto repair shop up the corner from my house. They’re super quick, friendly, efficient, and I actually trust them. Not once have they tried to over charge me or take advantage of me as a young woman.

I go to NTB. Not dealership, not technically “local”. Just where I’ve been bringing my cars since I was 16. Never really had any problems so no need to change shops

Depends what’s wrong with it. Recall stuff we take it to the dealership to handle. Other repairs like a nail in the tire we take to a local shop. If it’s something my husband can fix himself, he does.

Local mechanic or one is a chain/franchise the guy bought into. He’s told me “Ashley, nothing is wrong with your car.” And he could have told me something was and I would have gone with it. Honesty is what I look for. 
Ford has taken me and my dad through the ringer with our vehicles. 2nd transmission in 2014 escape put in this month. Ford put a new one under manufacture defect in 2017 but didn’t stand behind it. $4500 this past month to a local guy. Ford wanted $6500

Dealership for some things, locally owned shop for others. Rarely family (husband) and NEVER unlicensed friend.
My husband worked as a service advisor at a dealership for 13 years, and he now works for the state regulating auto repair shops and smog shops. There is a lot of shady shit out there.

Depends. If it’s still free to use the dealership, I go there. If it’s not, I go wherever is the least out of my way.
