How long does it typically take to get your Pap smear results back?

Is it typically sooner if it’s abnormal? I know this can vary, which is why I said typically.

My most recent one took 3 weeks.

It typically takes 3-5 days, but after receiving, results may sit a couple of days before anyone is actually able to deliver the results. Our receptionist at our office will sort through them and if she sees any abnormal results, she’ll notify us either in passing, or via IM. So, patients with abnormal results come first, so they may receive those results a few days earlier than someone with a normal result, even if the tests were performed same day, or samples were sent off on the same day. Little more sense of urgency when abnormalities are detected.

Mine usually take a week or so. The types of results have no bearing on the timing in my experience. They are all processed the same, no matter the result.
