What are abdominal ultrasounds like in a bigger body?

Like do they need to press down super hard to “look” past all the fat? Is there ever a chance that my belly has too much fat and they just decide to do a vaginal ultrasound instead because an abdominal one wouldn’t get the best results? Have my first ultrasound next week (I’ll be 10+4) and I’m excited and nervous and just want to know what to expect.

Just in the early stages they press hard. I had to have a transvaginal ultrasound at 8 weeks because they couldn’t find baby but after that I had just regular ultrasounds.

Depends how much fat you keep in your stomach I had to lift my stomach every ultrasound

My ob couldn’t see baby on abdominal at 10w+1, so she switched to transvaginal real quick

They never had to do anything extra. First ultrasound was vaginal but that’s pretty standard bc baby is like 1cm. The rest were abdominal.

They don't usually for the ultrasounds. At 10 weeks they may just do a vaginally to get a better picture. However when I go to my appointment and the nurse tries to find the heartbeat sometimes they have to press harder, buy it in no way hurts. Most the time I tell them they can press harder if they need to cause they don't want to hurt you.

They do have to press a little harder in the first few weeks. I was able to have an abdominal ultrasound at 10 or 11 weeks. Now at 16 no really hard pressing.
