Do you allow sleep overs?

Question

I have 2 girls, neither are old enough for sleep overs yet, but the topic came up with a friend today and my husband and I have talked about it before. 
I use to love them as a kid, but looking back there were some situations that could have been a lot worse than they were (not that they were good), usually involving a friends’ older brother of friends of their brothers. 
How do you handle sleep overs? 
Am I being paranoid? 
We have talked about just letting the girls have sleep overs at our house, but worry that might be confusing to them or offensive to their friends. 
We’ve heard of people just not allowing sleep overs period at their house or a friends. We’ve also thought about just saying sleep overs with family only—like at their grandparents.

No. We will not allow sleepovers at our house or for our kids to sleep over at someone else's house.

My oldest is 2.5 and we're already planning also overs for him. He currently does them with my parents and his aunts. We have close friends whose boys are the same age as our kids and our oldests are just about potty trained. She told her son yesterday (at his 3rd bday party) that as soon as he's overnight potty trained she's sending him to our house 😂😂. We've basically said since the boys were born that they can do sleepovers once everyone involved is potty trained. 
My daughter is the only girl, so far, between all our kids(3yo boy, 2.5 yo boy, 20mo boy, 16mo girl, baby boy due in Sept for them and baby boy due in Nov for us). She shares a room with her brother currently. We haven't discussed how we'll deal with things once she wants to do sleep overs, too, but those boys are her best friends. She's done one sleepover with my parents and one with her aunts so far.

I loved having sleep overs. My parents called me “America’s guest” because I was always somewhere. Nothing inappropriate happened in terms of anything physical, but I definitely drank young at sleepovers. I wouldn’t let her stay anywhere with a family that we didn’t know well and some of that will be age dependent. Also, we are hoping that we will have a relationship with her where she can be honest with us. And if not us, other adults in her life who she can trust.

I don’t plan on allowing sleepovers when my kids are old enough.  I wasn’t a fan when I was a kid & neither was my mom 🤷🏻‍♀️. Ultimately you have to think about what’s best for you & your family.

Set rules but sleep overs for friendship development! Make sure you know the friends parents and make sure they understand your rules. If they can’t follow them then only allow their child to sleep at ur house and not at that friends house but there’s no reason to punish the children for the parents not listening to your rules! I hope this helps.
