When is too late?

I’m just wondering…I’ve been in and out of the hospital for false labor. Have been sent home each time because my baby just isn’t ready 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m high risk, 2 miscarriages and 1 success but baby was preterm, born at 32 weeks….I’m now 36 + 2 with my son. I was at the hospital this past week for 2 days for monitoring, they gave me some meds to stop my contractions but they said they won’t be trying to aggressively stop the labor since I did make it this far with this baby. The contractions stopped and I was sent home the second day because when my midwife got there she said just let it take it’s course, there’s no reason to try to stop it at all because I’m close to term. However, when I left I was 4 CM and 90% effaced. My contractions started back the next day but not as frequent and they eventually stopped and it’s done that everyday since…that was about a week ago…yesterday I started having them about 5 min apart for about an hour before they subsided and today I’ve been having them all day but a bit more spaced out, but they’re very intense…problem is, even though they’re not consistent, I was already 4 CM and 90% effaced a week ago…I don’t want to have dilated anymore to the point where it’ll be too late to get an epidural once I go into active labor because I’ve heard once you reached 6 CM it’s too late to get one so what if I’ve gotten to 6 CM within this weeks time and not have known…go to the hospital tonight and can’t get the epidural??? There’s no way I can handle the pain of giving birth my tolerance for pain is extremely low and I just might fall out 😳 should I just go on to L & D even though my contractions aren’t that close together??
