How long would you have parents/inlaws visit after first kid born?

None of the above. They are welcome to visit for an hour or two maybe but they won’t be staying. It’s hard enough trying to adjust to having a new baby, I wouldn’t want to worry about anyone else.

Visit?  Right away.  Come in from out of town and stay a while ?  Not until at least a month.

Nobody is staying at my house after I give birth. They can come and cook for us or bring us meals, they can offer to make us dinner at their house, they can come clean for us… but I will not be entertaining houseguests when a tiny human just exited my body and I am bleeding and leaking milk and pouring sweat from everywhere. No thank you.

Mom will be in the hospital with my husband and staying a full week with me. In-laws will be bringing my toddler and see baby the second we get home. I learned the first time around, the more help the better.

My mom stayed 4 days with our first. I tore really bad and needed extra help. I also was breastfeeding and had no clue what I was doing and she helped a ton. So thankful for that time!

With my first, my mom spent the night the first night we were home from the hospital. She also came over almost every day (she lives locally) to help cook and care for me and the baby for the first month or so of my first baby’s life and it was fantastic. She still came over a lot after my second was born but not as much as my first. My first was such a challenging baby who never slept and the transition to motherhood was hard on me. I could not have done it without my mom, especially after my husband went back to work. Now I’m pregnant with my third and my mom has a full time job so she won’t be visiting as often. If you have the option for help, take it. As much and as long as you can get it, especially if it’s your first baby.

They can visit when we are home from the hospital but my inlaws have to take a ferry to the island we live on so since they would likely need to stay for a while. This time I'm hoping my husband will tell them we need at least a week before they come.  Last time they practically met us at our house at the same time we got home from the hospital and his bro brought his 3 kids who were running around the house and asking me for snacks and not giving me any privacy. Dont want to do that again!!
