My BF is 26 and does have money saved.. Red flag?

my boyfriend with be 27 in a month and has about 509 save right now but he always digging in it and can not saved money for shit . right now im tryna hell it saved $1000 and he said once he reaches that hes going to the credit union but every week its something he “needs” so he keeps taking money out his savings .. its weird to me that a grown man does have at least a couple thousand save but that could just be me. is this a red flag in a relationship im worried that he”ll always be financially illiterate and it will affect out future
