Short cervix 23 weeks - get a cerclage??
Ok so a quick breakdown of my situation:
- identified as having a short cervix around 16 weeks (was measuring 25mm)
- started weekly ultrasounds to check cervix length and it’s been stable at around 25-30mm since then
- was put on progesterone as well
- doc said if I go below 20mm they would give me a cerclage
So I’m 23 weeks now. I met with the doc last week and she said I’m approaching the time where a stitch wouldn’t be an option due to risk to the baby. I asked what would happen then if the cervix continued to shorten? She said you would deliver the baby, and in most likelihood it would survive.
I obviously don’t want a severely premature baby and want to do whatever I can to avoid it. So why not just do the cerclage to ensure I have the best chance of going to term? Should I push for it? Is it too late?
Thanks for your advice.
