What all do they do after baby is born? Do they have to take my baby blood for any test?

Answer

Right as soon, they check vitals, weight ect. And then the just prick their heels for a little blood to test their blood type, to check for jaundice, and such to make sure baby’s blood is healthy too. They do go over everything with you every step of the way, only thing they do is the vitals without going over it with you first but they do that right in the room. Every test they can do right there with you except the hearing test but you can request to go with them to do it

Newborn screen usually includes some blood work but at newborn stage it’s a heel prick not from the vein. It’ll typically include bilirubin levels and PKU test.
