Homeschool ?

Question

I wanna start homeschooling my daughter she’s going into Kindergarten. But I honestly don’t know where to start? Or if I need to let the office know? Do I need a laptop? Or some source? I live in the state of CA. I read about K12 it’s a good website but I still wouldn’t know. Can you guys help me? Or share some information thank you

We homeschool with Abeka Academy and use DVDS. They also offer online streaming. It makes homeschooling much simpler for me to have a curriculum and lessons on video. The teachers are amazing! A typical day looks like this:

I really want to be polite but I also want to be blunt. If you don’t know - then homeschooling probably isn’t for you. This is a big responsibility to take on. This is your child’s education. Too many people homeschool and have no clue what they’re doing because they’re not trained teachers, they sit them in front of a laptop and let a program teach their kids. Or they think they know better than teachers and try these modified Montessori programs that just result in kids that only play all day and have no instruction whatsoever. If you SERIOUSLY want to homeschool and be responsible for your child’s education entirely, try to join a homeschool co-op and reach out to experienced homeschoolers. Good luck.

You’ll 100% need a laptop and a printer. You’ll also need to let the school board know with a letter of intent to homeschool. Be prepared: it’s a LOT of work. Kindergarten might be slightly easier but I homeschooled by grade 2 and 3 kids this year and it was a tremendous amount of planning and work. Education.com has great resources. So does superteacherworksheets.com, both require a subscription.

Homeschooling is a process but worth it cause you know exactly what is being taught! And it’s good to ask question becuase each state has different guidelines that kids need to follow or proper paperwork with the county. But you can definitely do it mama!
There are homeschooling coops you can join or even part time charter schools (whcih is a step between homeschooling and public school). 
You have to be affiliated with a school of some kind; I was homeschooled through my young life and we had to keep journals about what we learned each day in each subject. 
I’d start with talking to teachers at a charter school near you; they might be able to let you know some tools you can use or start to gather :)

It varies state by state. Definitely second SouthernMama suggestions! I started following different groups locally thanks to her encouragement. I don’t think we’ll homeschool due to finances, but her advice helped us focus on our values as a family and helped us determine what school/curriculum matches those values. I had no idea about Waldorf or Montessori styles before looking at one of the homeschool style quizzes, and we ended up finding a local school that looks like it’d fit our values.
Co-ops and hybrid schools are great homeschool options/supports as well, but again, you’d have to see what’s local.

In California you need to file certain paperwork to homeschool. I also live in California I have to file for private school affidavit then provide the curriculum  and the materials I’m going use. I do a mixture of Montessori and forest schools as well standard schooling. I think k12 now known as stride is great if your child doesn’t plan on going to university in the future. Children who have been learning is k12 often show poorer academic results compared public school children. I probably do more prep work to homeschool than I did as an actual teacher. So you have to put the hours in. For me most of my materials are from me. Especially in kindergarten stay away from worksheets. Children at the age do not have the brain development for worksheets, they learn nothing.
