Are you close with your sibling?

Are you glad you have siblings? I’m struggling with knowing if I want to try for a second and I was an only child.

I'm close with my full-blood sister. But not with my half sister, who I found out about and met when I was 14 (she was 16 and full-blooded sister was 12.)
It definitely influenced me to have multiple children. My sister and I are 19 months apart. My sons are 21 months apart each and are 4, almost 3, and 1. My 4 y/o loves both of his brothers and is very "mother hen" toward both of them. The 1 y/o is always following both older brothers around. And 3 y/o has autism and isn't really very social so he doesn't really play with or have much interest in either brother right now.

I'm not close at all with my sibling, but it probably has more to do with the age gap than anything else. He's 8 years younger than I am, so we never really did much together and i was often treated like a second mom for him, making it hard to really feel like much of a sibling at all. Now that he's an adult, I don't do the caretaking stuff anymore, so we aren't really close.
With my current 2, they are 2 yrs apart and already do everything together and are inseparable. I imagine they will be very close siblings, which I think will be nice.

No. I’m 6 years older than my brother and he was babied (still is). I was not. We get along, but we aren’t close.

My brother is my best friend. We fought a lot growing up but we got closer as we got older. He was my maid of honor at my wedding, and he’s always there when I need him even though he lives 6 hours away. My daughter is only 2 months old but he’s the best uncle already.  
He and my husband are also very close. I only hope my daughter will be as close with her siblings when they come.

We’re not what I would consider close, by any means. I live half way or all the way across the US from all of them. 2 whole siblings I grew up with, and a step sister and half sister who are much younger and I’ve hardly seen. Still glad I have them. We’d be closer if we were physically closer, but we wouldn’t be the best of friends either and we weren’t the best of friends growing up. But we have a unique and special bond. I’m about to have my third, hoping we may eventually have 4 or possibly more. I think, even if they don’t end up close, siblings are a great thing. But multiple kids or even kids at all aren’t for everyone

I’m close to my sister and have been close to my nieces/nephews as they’ve grown up. My baby is nearly 4 months old and my sister and her cousins absolutely adore her. So it’s not just the sibling closeness, it’s aunts and cousins as well. Wouldn’t have that if I was an only child and nor would my daughter.

Depends. I have a sister who is 8 years older than me, and a brother 4 years older than me. I was close to my sister growing up even with a big age gap.  My brother I cannot stand him. He was an asshole growing up and tortured me. His behavior is even worse as an adult. Still close with my sister and talk to her all the time. I myself have 3 kids closer in age. My oldest son is 12, daughter is 9, and youngest son is 3. The older two fight everyday, they love you pick on each other. Surprisingly they both get along with their baby brother just fine, and never pick on him. Sibling relationships are weird, alot of love but also alot of rivalry.

Growing up, I really couldn’t stand my siblings. Now that we’re all older (36, 38, 42) we get along and see each other often; even though, we don’t always agree with each other’s choices, we’re always there to help the other out.
