When did your baby start cereal/solids?

Question

Pediatrician told us our 4 month old could start cereal because she has good neck control and is showing interest in us eating. She said it would have no nutritional value at this point. It would just be for her to practice.

I’m really astounded at pediatricians recommending cereal (let alone at 4 months) where evidence based practice shows it’s a choking hazard with no nutritional value . I would change pediatricians

When my sons pediatrician said to start offering rice cereal at a 4 month appointment in addition to “try cry it out to make baby sleep longer”, I’ve switched to another pediatrician right away..
Solids are not recommended before 6 months old, and when baby shows all signs of readiness for solids. Look them up

6 months. My sons ped said the same thing at 4 months but I just didn’t feel comfortable with solids yet. So I personally waited till 6 months to begin.

Every kid is different.  My first two started in the 4-6 month group, my third started later. 
If your doctor feels your baby is at that stage, I would go by what they say and start introducing solids. Start slow and go one thing at a time. 
With my last, the dr said to start, but he didnt do well, so I discussed it with his dr and we decided to wait and reintroduce later. We found that he preferred more solid foods than he could handle. He liked lumps in his cereal or the crunchy snacks. He did not like soft. It make him gag.

I started my kids on oatmeal cereal at 5 months both times. Their dr said they were ready at 4 months but if I wanted to wait more it was fine. It was just for practicing like you say, they loved it. Eventually they loved the baby jar food lol. Their dr had kids both same age as mine (like we both had kids 2-3 months apart) so I 100% trust her with anything 😊

The pedi pretty much contradicted himself. “Go ahead and start solids at 4m but it won’t be nutritional value to all.” 🤦‍♀️
Please don’t listen to this pedi, he is obviously NOT up to date with current information as all major health organizations recommendations are 6m for solids. Core strength from sitting unassisted has to be there to prevent choking. 
Cereal is also not recommended anymore and is not healthy.
All signs of readiness must be met first. This includes being 6m old.

We did BLW at 6 months, but sister in law cut a banana up into small chokable pieces and tried to feed it to her at 4 months 🙃 You can tell when babies aren't ready, their tongue will push the food out.

I started my little man early with the ok because his reflux. Even with thickened formula he was projectile vomiting. He was showing readiness signs at 3m. He's eating both purees and real food now that 7.5m

We started a little after 4 months but didn’t regularly feed her solids until 6 months. My daughter had met the milestones (head control, sitting up, bringing objects to mouth etc). She also had horrible reflux so it helped calm that.
