If you ask your obgyn to have an ultrasound done to see your baby will they let you?

I have a 12 week checkup next week and I’d like to see how much my baby has grown since seeing them at 8 weeks. I would also like to see how the nub is angling to see what I might be having. I don’t have an ultrasound scheduled that day. Do you think if I ask they will do one?

Do I think they should..yeah but they won’t . You can pay out of pocket. What you can do is ask if you can have an US  if you pay out of pocket or if they know of some where you can pay for one and get it done.

My obgyn for last pregnancy did an unplanned one at 14 weeks to see if we could tell gender. It was very nice of them but not required.

Agree with medical necessity and insurance comments. But also my OB is busy. The ultrasound wouldn’t just be available without an appointment specifically for that.

They dont do things unless necessary. However they do offer the Down syndrome and such ultrasound around 13 weeks so youll have one soon. They dont do gender ultrasound until closer to twenty weeks and even if rhey saw gender most ultrasound techs are legally not allowed to reveal that so your out of luck unless u go for a private scan and pay out of pocket

Depends on the situation. If they check with the doppler and cant easily identify heartbeat (which can still be very normal at 12 weeks) you can ask if they have availability to quickly check on ultrasound. I know my midwives have done this for me in all pregnancies especially after my miscarriages. However, if they find the heartbeat there shouldnt be any cause for alarm. You can always request one and see what they say but you may need to come back another day to have it done.

Not necessarily.  Your insurance may not allow it because it may not be deemed medically necessary.  You can book a private scan though.

Most likely if you want one, they will do it, but you’ll end up paying for the full cost and it would be done at a later date. Which I would recommend going to a private ultrasound provider (normally places have gender related ultrasounds or 3/4D options), most likely they would cost less than your OB office will charge.
