Is Sucks a bad word?

We are on a long road trip and my 2 year old started whining about being in the car, I said I know it sucks, and hubby scolded me for using bad words.

I don’t think it’s a “bad” word, I just think it’s a word where there might be a better word to use instead (I.e. awful, unpleasant, etc). I often have to catch myself now and think, there’s a better way to verbalize this expression.

It’s not necessarily a bad word, but if I wouldn’t use it at work, I wouldn’t prefer my child use it 🤷🏼‍♀️
