Am i just being paranoid?😬

So I'm a very OCD person when it comes to personal hygiene and keeping things clean and tidy.

We currently have a 2 week old baby. I have always told people that they need to wash their hands, do not kiss my baby and make sure that they are clean.

However, people do not do this.. or they don't do it properly. I.e they do not wash their hands with soap. Just water them for a few seconds.

I have already told people to do it properly etc etc but it just doesn't seem to go in their heads.

I am really worried about our little boy becoming ill. But im also not sure what illness he can get from people not being hygenic...

Any advice? And what should I look out for with people not keeping up with their hygiene.

I'm not wanting to prevent these people from seeing our little one but no matter how many times I express my concerns no one listens or does anything about it.

I always look out for if they go to kiss my baby on the lips and so far that's not the case just the forehead or cheek. But am I just being overly paranoid?

1. It’s your child, your boundaries. Protecting your baby is yours & partner’s job. Be emboldened by this!! 2. Hand washing or sanitizing before handling a newborn at the very least is common practice. So yknow… totally get on them because they should be doing that.3. Anyone that wants to minimize your concerns by calling you paranoid can kick rocks!

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I just know that people stick to the old ways and that nothing can harm babies as we all are fine 😬

Be careful u don’t protect baby too much else their immune system will not have a chance to build up and be as effective as it should be. Altho defo agree the no kissing is important due to cold sores, herpes virus.

The only problem is that these people are immediate family on both sides... our only source of support is like 2 of them. Which is a ballache when we already discussed this with them.

Stick to ur guns then as you’ve got specific concerns and it’s not just general caution. And if ppl don’t like it then tough. It’s ur baby and ur choice. Hope he’s over his tummy bug and feeling better soon

I think it's mainly because 2 of them is a heavy chain smoker, and 2 of them do not shower often or wash themselves at all. And a few do not wash their hands at all and it just makes me paranoid. Especially when some are care workers, dealing with multiple people on a day to day basis. And especially in the pandemic. I know my boy needs to get his immune system back up, but he's currently got a tummy bug, and I literally noticed yesterday that people's hygiene was not kept clean and now I'm thinking that these people handling our baby a week ago has now played a factor in him being ill...

This early on I understand, but don't forget it's very normal, and in fact healthy, for babies to get ill. It's how they build their immune systems. So maybe try and enforce it where you can, but don't panic too much when you can't.

I think it's mainly because others do not like hygiene one bit. And the fact my boy is currently unwell 😬
