First time TTC *HELP*

Hello, I'm ttc for a second but this is my first time ttc. I don't know a thing about testing for my ovulation. I'm going to buy some ovulation tests and start checking after my period comes. I wanted to know. My period is irregular, so how am I supposed to know when to start testing? Like how many days after my period ends do I start testing? Also, what time of the day is best to test? Sorry, I know I sound so uneducated 😥. I try to Google, but it's not giving me the answers that I'm looking for. I thought it was best to ask you guys, since you guys have experience.
