thesis statement help for abortion essay?

Question

I have to write an essay on abortion and I have to debate both sides pro-life or pro-choice. But I cant show what side I support. I have no idea how to write a thesis on something I cant show which side I stand on… 
I have some ideas to talk about on both sides(physical/mental health, individual rights, morals, child welfare etc) for the body portion, but still can’t figure out how Im going to create the thesis statement. 
Any Assistance? 
UPDATE I chose the subject because there is TONS of information/resources on it which makes it easier to write on. The professor just asked we pick a highly debated topic that ties into sex and we cant show what side we are on.

Take some info you find and tie it together to make a statement. Sometimes it’s easier to research first and come up with the thesis at the end.

What they are asking you to do is use research to support your thesis rather than just making a claim and trying to blindly back it up. And I would think you can narrow it down to something like accessibility, funding, and probably even it getting pushed on different demographics. I suggest you narrow it down becuase it will be easier to write a paper on and it won't be all over the place.

Something like “Abortion is a contentious issue with strong feelings on all sides.”  That’s the only thing I can think of when the assignment itself doesn’t allow you to draw a conclusion. But honestly this is a pretty terrible essay topic.  I’m shocked it’s been assigned and the teacher is going to be inundated with essays that can differentiate the emotional issues from the scientific ones or that only provide super weak support for the side they don’t support. Why can’t teachers pick a topic that won’t cause distress? I mean have people debate the pros and cons of a new highway project or something.

Another topic mentioned this, but I would suggest researching and starting to write your main part of the essay first, and then go back and make your thesis! Hopefully as you research and start writing body paragraphs you’ll find what your point is and can write the thesis
