Preemie at 36 weeks

My DD was born at 36 weeks exactly and was due July 17th I delivered her via c section on June 22nd due to pregnancy complications

I heard that with preemies u have to subtract the number of months that they had left with the age they are at the moment if that makes sense , is that true ?
