Taking away online options?

Question

So we all know about the delta variant. With its spikes, do you think it makes sense to take away online options for elementary, middle, and high schoolers? 
All the local high schools in my area did away with the option for the upcoming school year. A lot of parents are angry. We’ve had a couple positive cases so far, but it’s a college town and sure to spike when the students return in the fall. (Relevant because one of the middle schools is in the same area of the town as the university. -I would walk next to 12 year olds on my way to class and they’re walking home from school -super unrelated but also weird so mentioned lol). 
So what do you think? Should online still be an option?  Should it be the only option? 
*the schools are also not requiring masks, unsure about social distancing guidelines* (masks I’m sure subject to change if the state mandate went back into place)

So after the Delta variant, which one will be next? Which one will effect us in 2022? American? Emirates? I really don’t know. I can’t speak for teachers and those doing the work. 
I know you didn’t mention this, OP, but I can’t stand the term “home schooling” for kids who are enrolled in school, but are doing it online. Parents, you’re supervising and helping your children do online work, you’re not homeschooling them. If a teacher is putting together lessons and tests and doing the grading, you’re not homeschooling. 
How about they get collective data from TEACHERS and PARENTS?

It’s not fair to continue to ask teachers to teach both online and in person. It’s unreasonable. If they want to continue offering both, they should hire more teachers

In my area I believe online is an option, and schools are absolutely requiring masks/distancing. But it should be the parents choice. Not everyone can afford to stay home with their young kids and do online school, and not everyone will be comfortable sending them in person… every situation is unique.

If a family wants to continue online learning, there are many public virtual schools that accept students from all across the country and many states have their own virtual school as well. There are options for families that don’t involve raking teachers over the coals.  
The demands placed on teachers are asinine. Teaching students physically in school and virtually at home at the same time is too much. Oh and don’t forget all the parenting they have to do because parents don’t. And then they have their non-teaching responsibilities. And somewhere in there, they have their own families with their own children who would like some time with mom and dad too. 
Teachers are professionals and should be treated as such.

Goodbye online!!! I am a teacher and this past year was a mess. I can only speak from my experience, but attendance online was horrific, parents and others doing work FOR their kids then throwing a fit when their child’s perfect grades and data disqualified them for specific services, parents interrupting my lessons, kids thinking they could do and say whatever they wanted because they’re home. Not to mention that we had parents calling us lazy. LAZY?! I have never worked harder in my 9 years of teaching than I did this year. I also have a toddler and had a baby in October that came along for my wild online teaching experience. I was so disappointed with this school year and am so happy that my district is returning to in-person 5 days a week. School is meant to be in person K-12th!

The split system seems like it would make the most sense. Especially for children too young for the vaccine. High schools should be requiring it. 
Pandemic aside, I’d like to see children get the education that suits them best. There’s been a lot of understandable complaining about kids at home, but some students are thriving with it. 
I’d like to see schools take on additional teachers some who do in person, and some who work with remote learners. It would help keep classroom sizes lower, and everyone safer and happier.

It should still be an option, we’re having to pull my little sister completely and do homeschool because there’s no online option even cases rises again. She was on a half high school half college program and is upset but she is very high risk as are my parents. We’re all vaccinated but my stepdads and her doctors have told them to try their hardest not to get it, so homeschool it is. She’s having to go to school the first few days so we can get all her stuff and there’s no masks or social distancing even tho the school told them they would at least social distance but can’t force students to wear masks since our dumbass governor banned mask mandates. 
There’s no protection and the school has said if a student test positive for covid they don’t have to quarantine and can come to school still. So we’re just waiting on the outbreaks and who knows if even then they’ll go back to virtual cause our governor has some need to kill kids 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sometimes I think the vaccines should be pursued more for the middle schoolers, and high schoolers plus. But they should still be wearing masks for others safety. And it should still be optional. For younger kids should be wearing masks and out side should be optional.

If parents want their children home then it's now their turn to find a solution whether they hire a tutor or homeschooling themselves.  I don't think it fair to have teachers continue to teach both online and in school

Why can’t they just sign up for online school through a program that does online school? The schools in my area didn’t do well with online. Kids got half ass education and a lot of the teachers had no clue what they where doing. I think if your doing it another year, you should set it up with a school that actually knows what they’re doing.
