Any thoughts or opinions?

I’m due to give birth September 10th with my baby boy and I’m so torn on the idea of circumcision. Does it cause a lot of pain for baby or do they use and anesthetic during procedure I’m just nervous for baby boy. Any other moms have any Input on their decisions in circumcision or how it went. Thank you for any comments.

Yeah, it does hurt, there’s no way around that no matter what people want to believe.  There are nerves in that skin like any other skin.  Even the local anesthetic hurts when they actually use it (which they don’t like to because it can cause swelling and a bad cut).  They can’t localize pain yet but they feel it.

I’m sorry but how can it not hurt? If I pull a hangnail it hurts… and this is a piece of the penis filled with nerves. I’m all for parents making choices, don’t get me wrong… your baby do whatever you want. But it has to hurt. Even if it’s numbed during the procedure wouldn’t it hurt after? To have it in a diaper and pee on it many many times a day. Ouch.

We circumcised our son, they used lidocaine that numbed it. They also used sweeties (sugar water) and a nuk to distract him. Takes a week or two to heal. If we were having another boy I’d do it again.

They numb the area, some babies cry, some don’t. I mean ask your partner if they are circumcised bet they don’t remember it. I’ve assisted in the procedure a few times. I am not the baby so I don’t know how they feel. I know if they get it older it i A LOT worse

I am a L&D RN and we assist during circs. I’m not here to judge people’s decisions… but I see these kids and it definitely hurts. It’s a major cosmetic procedure. Where I work the docs do use a local anesthetic, and we use sucrose water to help keep them soothed. However, with all of that they definitely still experience pain, and are sore afterwards. It’s a super personal decision, but if you want the truth of it… it’s an intense procedure, and they definitely experience pain.

I let me husband decide this. I honestly understand both sides here. Since I am not a man I figured I wouldn’t understand the physical or social implementations of either being circumcised or not. And this is a better decision for dad to make than me. My husband chose to circumcise our boy, probably for social reasons. Plus My husband is circumcised and he didn’t want our boy to feel different or feel different in the locker room at school or sports etc.

I have seen videos and I do not understand how one can inflict such pain on a child. My son is not circumcised, neithernis my hubby and never had any cleanliness issues

I’ve observed multiple circumcisions as part of my job in labor and delivery, and I chose not to have either of my sons circumcised. Maybe look up a YouTube video of the procedure before you decide to go ahead with it. Also, it may be worth knowing that your son can decide to have the procedure done any time later in life if he wishes.

We did it with our son and will do it with our twin boys at birth . My son didn’t even cry when they did it . It’s very quick and it’s over before they know it .
