What is it with people?

What's it with people and Chihuahuas?
I have a Chihuahua and as soon as i say that people go "oh how do you put up with all that barking" or "they are so mean I would never get one". 
I have had 3 Chihuahuas and they never really barked unless somebody knocked on the door and they sure as hell never tried to hurt anyone.
I know everyone has their own opinion but I'm curious why does everyone say these things. I saw a post on here that said I'll rather hold a pitbull than a Chihuahua. So I'm curious now

Here’s my take. It’s about the owners, not the dogs. I dog sat for several years and in general the owners of big dogs take more care to train them while owners of small dogs just kind of let the dogs do whatever they want because they’re small. When you have a small dog it’s not going to knock you over if it jumps up, it’s not going to scare children if it barks, it’s not going to send anybody to the hospital if it bites, if it has an accident in the house it’s a much smaller puddle.
It doesn’t really matter the size of the dog, it matters that the owner bothers to train it well. If you’ve trained your small dogs well then there’s no problem. Unfortunately too many small dog owners don’t.

Personally, I’ve never met a chihuahua that I liked. All of them bit at my ankles, wouldn’t stop barking, pissed all over the place, etc. It’s probably a coincidence and an owner issue, as in not training them. I’m not mean to them if I see one but I will avoid them if at all possible.

I don't think any dog breeds are inherently mean (including pitbulls). I think people fail at training them and correcting bad behaviors.

I honestly am scared of chihuahuas. The reason being is my grandma and her husband. If you tried petting one while they were holding the dog, they’d bite. If you tried picking one up from their bed, they’d bite. I tend to not go near them as in any chihuahua for that reason. Some people’s might be well behaved but I don’t engage

Chihuahuas and small dogs in general just really are annoying… I think because you love your dogs you can’t see their behavior that others probably do not like. The only time I’ve ever been attacked by a dog was a small yorkie or something, tore my ankle up. Any dog can be aggressive but it just so happens that small dogs show out the most

Cause EVERY chihuahua I've met is a horrible yapping shit!!! They are small, so they "get away" with being little shits! Barking are everything. Jumping up. Growling and nipping at people. They are dumpster rats if you ask me haha. I have 2 big dogs. One a pitbull/mastiff and deal.wiyj a lot of stigma around that as well. So I get your frustration. But honestly,  I have NEVER met not a single well-trained, well-mannered, well-adjusted chihuahua! Not once! And I've been around plenty! (And it's all the owners. Not the dogs fault. I'm well aware of that. But for some reason, owners of those small breeds just allow their dogs to be horrible little shits sometimes). And regarding the Barking only when someone comes to the door... that's still a training issue. None of my dogs bark when someone knocks or rings at the door. We trained them that way. 🤷‍♀️

Chihuahuas can be mean like any other breed but owners tend to put up with more aggression from them bc they cant really hurt anyone which is why they tend to be more prone to bad behaviors such as barking and aggression.    If an owner properly trains and treats their dog it is fine.   We had a chihuahua and should wouldnt hurt a fly.  And wasnt barky as well.  But we didnt allow her to be aggressive either

I don’t have a problem with chihuahuas in general, I have a problem with crappy dog owners who let their little dogs bark and bite and misbehave just because they’re small and cute. I see this more often with small dogs like chihuahuas and Yorkies than I do with larger dogs, but obviously it’s not the dog’s fault.
I love all dogs. Big, small, doesn’t matter. I will cuddle the crap out of any dog if it will let me lol. But I find people with small dogs tend to baby them or invade their personal space and ignore their warning signs like growling or barking, and it ends up with their dog being very anxious and territorial.

My chihuahua didn’t really bark too too much unless he was defensive of course. However, he did scream like hell whenever I would leave him alone. I loved my chi chi though!
