How normal is brown discharge?

I’m 5weeks 1 day and I just noticed brown discharge as I was wiping. Does everyone experience this?

Answer

Not everyone experiences it, but also doesn’t always indicate a problem.  It is common to occur and brown blood is not a concern unless it turns red and heavy and especially if combined with severe cramping.   If it is any consolation, with my 2 sons’ pregnancies I experienced brown, pink, and even the occasional red streak off and on in the first 20 weeks, but both my boys were born completely healthy and there was never a cause found other than suspecting I may just have had sensitive skin and thus bled relatively easily. Not sure how credible the source, but I remember reading that 20 percent of healthy pregnancies with experience bleeding of some sort.

I had brown discharge with my son. I had it on and off for a week. He's now 22 months old 🥰. It's old blood.
