what exactly is placenta previa? (20wks)

hi all- what exactly does placenta previa mean? i made the mistake of googling it and now scared myself so i’m coming here. i am 19w6d and that’s what my US stated. i didn’t have that at my 12 week one. i don’t experience cramping or bleeding  (yet…) so idk if i should be concerned or anything

Placenta previa is where the placenta is covering the opening of the cervix. It can be partial or a complete covering. Your doctors should monitor you to see if it corrects itself or if you need a c section delivery. My friend just had her baby yesterday and had complete placenta previa. She had to have a c section but otherwise everything was fine.

Keep in mind that it can also move. So unless you have a complete one when you actually go into labor try to not let it worry you too much :) if your Dr didn’t mention it and you just saw it on your labs they probably aren’t concerned which is good!
