Contractions?

I was laying down and went to go wash some dishes and in the middle of washing them all the sudden I got this intense amount of pressure that I’ve never felt before so bad that I had to bend over and I couldn’t even stand up straight , I’m not sure if it was a contraction or not , I’m 34 weeks and 6 days. How am I supposed to know when I’m having contractions? I’m a first time mom

A contraction has pretty distinct characteristics. Painful similar to very strong period cramps, It comes in waves (a clear start and finish) lasting seconds to 1min. And the frequency should start off 1 every 15-20mins. As for the pressure you are experiencing, that can be normal but I have no idea since idk exactly what your a feeling nor am I a doctor to check exactly but from my own personal experience in having more than 1 child, that was normal for me in the last few month. So much so that I could barley walk straight and my vag was always swollen. Best advice I can give you is to monitor and see if you develop any timeable cramps or water break or blood or maybe just lay down put your feet up see if that will give you some relief. Also in my personal experience the pressure I would feel came and went. So maybe hours later I was fine then two days later same thing. Also would notice it more if I was active that day even just doing simple house chores. Also when in doubt just call your ob if at anytime you feel uneasy about anything. We have to listen and trust our gut feelings.
