Can somone help me understand my deductions on my checks?

Are taxes calculated before or after deductions? I'm curious how come my taxes stayed the same amount on the two highlighted when I'm deductions went up (I added life insurance so deductions went up by 23 bucks) wouldn't that change my tax amount ? I'm salaried by the way not sure if it matters. These are by weekly payments

Some things come out pretax and some post. Your itemized paycheck stub should show you what comes out pre and post tax. If the life insurance is post tax then it makes sense that tax didn’t change.

It depends what you've set up and how. They can come either way.

Some are before some are after. 401k contributions for example are usually deducted before taxes are assessed, as toy won’t pay taxes on that money until you withdraw it. Many things though are deducted after taxes are assessed.
