Got word my local hospital is not testing dad's at admission and not allowing covid positive dad's.... Meaning you labor alone. I gave birth in May2020 with my first and this was not the case. Anyone elses hospitals doing this?

If they aren’t testing how would they know he’s covid positive?

I don’t blame them for not allowing a person who’s tested positive for covid inside where all of the newborns are. I would not be happy if I found out the parent in the room next to mine was positive. 
Are you sure they aren’t testing the partners? Or did you mean they are testing, and just if it’s positive they can’t come in? Also how quick can they even get a test result? I’ve heard the rapid tests aren’t super reliable so that would be concerning as well if it’s a false positive. I’m not sure what our birthing center is doing now regarding testing etc, but I was told as of now I could bring my partner and that’s it but that may change within the next 3 weeks.

You’d only labour alone if they were positive which sounds completely fair to me. Our hospital is the same, if your partner tests positive they aren’t allowed in. Why would they put the baby and other families at risk.

It sucks but this is just the reality of birthing in a pandemic. I wouldn’t want my husband there if he was covid positive and could spread it to other moms and babies.

Call the hospital and discuss this with them.  I’ve called a couple of times to get updates after hearing rumors and they were mostly wrong rumors

My hospital said they would only need to test my husband if my test happens to come back positive.

I wouldn’t want my husband in labor and delivery with me if he was dumb enough to get covid right before our baby was born. I would be more pissed at home rather than the hospital. He could spread it to other moms and other babies. Luckily my hospital is requiring proof of vaccination for any visitors. And I understand vaccinated people can spread the disease but the risk is much much lower, especially for us since we both work from home and only associate ourselves with other vaxxed people.
