What’s it like living in a shelter with child?

I want to just go to the shelter because it’s my last straw and I feel like I can restart my life from there. It’s really me and my daughter against the world at this point me and her father don’t have anything real between us since he’d rather abandon us to go and live with someone else. I’m in so much pain rn.

Experiences vary based on the shelter. It can be good and beneifical or it can be dangerous and detrimental. You will lose some level of privacy and autonomy. But it is meant to be temporary and if you work your plan and use all your supports, it can be the step you need to get you independent and safe. Best of luck. 🤍

If he’s living elsewhere, why would you go take your child to a shelter to live?  Things may just be too fresh for you to think clearly right now but please don’t put your child in that type of situation unless there’s absolutely no other choice. Also, he has a responsibility to his child whether you two are together or not. Just because a man leaves you, that responsibility to his child doesn’t just disappear. It’s entirely possible for him to leave you but still take care of and love his child.  
If y’all lived together and he’s still on that lease, he’s still responsible for the rent. You can also file for child support.

Dele da OB the state. You can look up translational housing shelters. I volunteered for one in orange country, CA and it’s not your typical shelter. You have a room that locks and a bed you share half a kitchen and you have privacy when needed because each room has its own bathroom. There are 2 I know of that operate like a dorm hall with one family per room.
