Can you delay your period?

Robyn

Hi there!

I'm an athlete and I have an event scheduled during the predicted timing of my period next month.

I'm a fighter so I have to weigh 10lbs less than I currently weigh, and also have to be able to perform a full contact fight. Historically my periods have been full of cramps and water retention.

This fight is scheduled on my predicted 3rd day. I have one period coming up in 6 days before this one. So I can experiment if I act quickly.

Any suggestions on something I can try, to either push my period out by a week, or maybe make it happen sooner?

I've been reading that emergency contraception might work, but there's not much information out there for female athletes who need to manage their periods around events.

I should probably mention that birth control guarantees me to hold an extra 5-8lbs. I've tried various types and I'm healthiest off it. I'm willing to try a temporary birth control option but would likely need to go off it 1-2 weeks before my fights to lose the excess weight.

I've booked a meeting with my doctor, but I'm looking for suggestions I can ask him about too.
