Letting baby play by himself

My baby is almost one year old. He is starting to play be himself a little nowadays. Recently he started banging his toy on the ground and sees what happens. I assume he is entertained by the sound. I dont correct him when he does that but my husband takes the toy away and says “you cant play rough. You have to play gently” . Is this even right? I thought we should let him be by himself but husband insists he should be corrected and this is causing a argument between us. 🤦🏽‍♀️
