Is a humidifier a must have?

Do I really need a humidifier for the baby? My mother in law swears that I need one.

My house is dry and cool so I got one for our personal needs. It’s not necessarily always a need I wouldn’t think.

I only use them when my kids are sick. When they have really bad nasal congestion and spend the night breathing through their mouth it can really irritate the throat and cause a lot of coughing, a humidifier helps to soften and break up the congestion and helps keep the mouth and throat from getting too dry. A lot of newborns do have some residual congestion from birth so maybe that’s why your MIL insists on it? I never really used it much for that newborn congestion phase though, not sure why, but if this one is congested around 3 weeks I’ll probably try it out now lol

No. Hot steamy shower if baby is sick. Unless you live in a very dry climate I think it’s unnecessary. And they’re cheap so you can just go grab one if need be later. IMO

It was a must have for us. We have a cool mist one so it actually acts like a little ac or fan its great for the summer. The vicks one is good cause you can add the scent which helps with opening airways & it comes with a nightlight projector which is cool. I live in Florida where its always humid but since we have the ac which runs non stop all day everyday that really dries up the air in our house so its pretty necessary & I notice I sleep better with it too it helps my son with snoring also. When I lived in ny it was used everyday pretty much too. Great for allergy season, winters & it cooled us down im the summer. Your going to want it when baby gets congested trust me! And those beginning weeks when they are all mucusy after birth. Helps them sleep helps you sleep.

We have a dehumidifier haha. I've only ever used one when he was sick with a cough and stuffy nose.

My daughter was born with serious allergies and asthma so we have mini ones all over the house and a massive one in her room and the babies room. If you don’t want one and steamy shower works just as good

We have 2 that we keep in their closets. We use it if they are showing symptoms from the dry air or if they are fighting a respiratory infection. Otherwise they stay put away.
