Do your iud strings poke your partner during sex?

I’ve had my Mirena iud since the beginning of May (so about 4 months now). When I first got it, my strings were very pokey. I think part of that is due to the doctor cutting the strings too short. My boyfriend would have to stop because the strings were very pokey and caused a lot of irritation for him. After a couple months, it was better, but still really noticeable. He refused to do certain positions because of how uncomfortable it was. Now (after 4 months), we’re still having issues with them being noticeable. He described it as feeling like floss was in there. I’m curious to see if this is a common issue among IUD users. If so, how long did it take your iud strings to “soften up”?
