If your having a boy are you circumcising?

My partner and I have gone back and forth on this sooooooo much! On one hand it makes me extremely uncomfortable and like I’m mutilating my child. And all the research that has come out to say that it’s not dirty if taken care of. My only fear if the research that came out and said that they would be more at risk for certain things like uti, stds etc. (which I’m not sure is true anymore or not) and on that note I feel like it should be something my son should be able to choose later in life (if that’s even possible)

No, we will not be circumcising our son. He deserves the right to bodily autonomy and to decide if/when he would like to be circumcised as his own choice. I wouldn’t ever take that choice away from my child.
Would you plan to take away a daughter’s clitoral hood or inner labia? Because that’s essentially the same thing as removing a perfectly normal and healthy foreskin.
The majority of men across the world are intact because it’s normal. There is nothing dirty about having a foreskin, there’s nothing dangerous about it, and there are benefits to having one. It keeps the glans an internal organ, like your clitoris. If you remove a foreskin, the glans (head of the penis) becomes calloused from over exposure and has reduced sensation. Never mind all the nerve endings you remove by removing the foreskin.
There’s a reason many insurance companies won’t cover the procedure anymore and why it’s considered a cosmetic procedure - it’s not medically necessary. An intact penis is also easier to care for because the foreskin doesn’t retract until closer to puberty and the ONLY person who should be retracting it is the boy himself. The foreskin is fused to the penis in the same way your fingernails are fused to your fingers.

Nope. We decided not to circumcise. Talked to my OB and she said it’s absolutely unnecessary and usually only performed because of religious reasons. I asked her about the cleanliness problems and she said to show little guy how to clean properly. It’s like how we as women are prone to UTI’s and such but how we learn how to take care of ourselves. Show them to be clean and everything should be fine

Circumcision is unnecessary. Why mutilate your baby like that? It wasn’t even a question for us. My husband isn’t circumcised and has no issues with cleanliness or anything else. My son is 17 months old now and he’s been fine so far too. It’s there for a reason. We don’t talk about cutting off parts or girls genitalia so why do we talk about it with boys?

In the UK, it's the norm for men not to be circumcised and I can't say that any of the men I've dated have suffered from UTIs or STDs... I don't think that those research links are very robust. Here it is mainly done by Jewish and Muslim people in accordance with religious tradition.

I let my husband make the choice to circumcise our son or not and he’s choosing to do so. We don’t feel any hesitation for the procedure what so ever. You’re the parents, you know what’s best for your baby.

My son ( now 9) is not circumcised. There father isn’t from America. So when I brought it up, he immediately said no, that they don’t practice that in his home country. I did the research and agreed it was completely unnecessary. 
My son has never had any issues what so ever with infections or dirtiness, and tbh my son has been going through that dirty boy phase for a couple months ( refusing to shower not showering properly, y’all know if you’ve had kids lol it’s a struggle) and he’s penis is still fine.

My SO is completely against it and said he will make sure to teach him how to properly care for his self. That’s fine by me 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know there’s so many pros and cons but personally I couldn’t do that to my baby. To each their own.

We are! I asked my husband his thoughts, and he decided. He is the one with that body part, not me. Last time this question was asked on this page there were so many wives explaining how their husbands who were circumcised felt so embarrassed. It’s a much more painful process later on in life.

I understand it is not common outside of America. But here it is extremely common to be circumcised. About 85% of males are circumcised. As someone who works in the er, I see a lot of grown men coming in for infection and having to have the foreskin removed and it is brutal the older you are. I made the decision to circumcise after discussing it with the men in my life and they encouraged it for cosmetic reasons saying it is really embarrassing to be “intact” and are glad they are circumcised and that’s probably just because majority of men in this country are circumcised. And for the people saying let him make that decision for himself it’s actually not that easy insurance won’t cover it for cosmetic reasons and it’s an expensive procedure. But as long as he can keep up with personal hygiene there shouldn’t be any shame in leaving it intact either. I think it’s a better question to ask men than women. Also in my experience my baby did not cry during or after and it did not bother him and it healed in a couple days that was my main concern was the pain.
