Foster son enjoyed the lake

We went down to the lake yesterday with our foster son(he's 15) and stopped by the town book store. He picked out 5 books he really liked or thought he would really like. My sister and niece tagged along with us. The lake was relaxing but honestly I think the most fun he had was with my niece. I saw them sitting at the bench talking. My husband was barbequing. I went to help my husband with the steaks and heard then talk. One situation that happened that I actually posted about advice on was when my sister and niece were over and their dog got into our bathroom trash can and came out with our foster sons bedwetting diaper and he got upset and embarrassed and went to his room. My niece (she's 18) had said she hopes he knows it's not a big deal because she wet the bed until 12. And she told him this at the lake. He seemed embarrassed but started telling her she reminds him a lot of his older sister. This next parts a bit sad but when she asked where she was he said he doesn't know and she should have aged pit of the system 2 years ago but never tried to find him. They started looking through his books and she yelled "That's a dirty book!" I said what's a dirty book? I forgot the title but was some gay vampire book. He chuckled and said "Yeah I know. I enjoy then. Plus I'm gay". That I did not know. Honestly he spoke to her more than he spoke to US! But we had a great time. He seems to feel more relaxed. Honestly I was worried about him in the beginning. We said no violent children and a 15 year old trying to burn down his foster parents sounds pretty violent, but understanding why he did it and the trauma they caused and received no punishment honestly they deserved it. He ate more than I have ever seen him eat. His personality shined through more that day. I'm pretty thankful for my husband big heart. The only "downside" was on the way back he fell asleep in the car(so did I) and ended up wetting the seat, but we said nothing besides take a shower and cleaned the seat. He ended up talking to him about some of his favorite books. So I still say it was a success.
