How can I find out if someone has died in a house? I’m trying to rent this home but will not do it if someone died in it.

I have this weird thing about moving into homes where people has died in it. No matter what I will not do it
This house isn’t to old, it was actually built in 1991, but It’s being rented directly by the owner, I don’t know if he will be truthful or not, so I just want to make sure nobody has ever died in this house at any point
How can I find this out?

Depending on where you live, it can be something that they need to disclose to the renter by law. In California they need to tell you if someone has died on rental property or if you're buying it but it only goes back 3 years, any deaths later than that they don't need to disclose. You should check if it's the same where you are planning to live and even if it's not legally required, it doesn't hurt to ask the owner or property management company.

If you really think about it, people died in almost every house in the world. It's just the way in which they died that might be the bothersome part. But if something violent happened, then it should be disclosed.

Depends where you live if there is a legal obligation to tell. And, as far as I know, only SOME places have a lega obligation IF the death was violent and occurred in the past X years (so after like 5 years or something, becomes irrelevant to the sale or rental of the property). So meaning if a person dies of natural or self inflicted causes, there is ZERO need to disclose. I'm in Canada and asked all these questions because we are in the market to buy a new (to us) home. I want to know if someone died, but in reality, where I live, there is ZERO legal obligation to disclose any death on a property. Bummer. I know. So unless you Google the address to see if it pulls something up by some odd chance (which then would likely link it to a violent death), then there would be no way to know. The other detail is that a property could have had multiple owners and details like deaths aren't reported as part of a sale of a property so there is really no true way to find out of granny died there 40 years ago.
