10 month old ate a dishwasher pod
Ugh my day couldn’t possibly get worse than it already is. 😑
So I nanny for my sister. She has 4 kids.. 8yrs, 6yrs, 4yrs, and 10 months old….. Today, the 6yr old stayed home from school because she had a belly ache last night.
This morning was just her, the 10 months old, and me because the 4yr old was at preschool
I was about to empty the dishwasher so I could clean up the kitchen a bit because it was a mess and the 6yr old loves helping with chores so she asked if, once the dirty dishes were in the dishwasher if she could put the dishwasher pod in. I said yes, and then she grabbed one out from under the sink. I put the pod on the counter so it wouldn’t get lost and then moved the 10 month old into his pack and play because he likes to try to climb on the dishwasher door once it’s down
After that, I start looking for a lighter to light a candle because one of their dogs pooped inside. I find one, light a candle, and then take both dogs outside so they can go potty
Then I was just about to start emptying the dishwasher when my niece yells that my nephew had a blow out in his pack and play….I walk over there and that’s when I find him chewing on a dishwasher pod!!!! I immediately take the pod away and ask my niece why in the world did she give it to him?!?! She denied it even though she’s the only one home who could have possibly given it to him😑
I immediately get on the phone with poison control and they tell me that it has to be treated at home unless his symptoms are severe… they told me to just keep on eye out for excessive drooling, vomit, diarrhea etc. I told them he did have a blow out and it was liquid but I have no way of knowing if it was from the pod or not so I just have to keep an eye on him about that…. His mouth looks good; it doesn’t look like there is any irritation or burning. His breathing is also good so there is now swelling in his throat either
After that, I FaceTime my sister so she can see how much of the pod he ate and also talk to her daughter… she ended up coming home just so she could see him and keep an eye on him just for her own piece of mind and also talk to my niece in person to try to figure out what the heck she was thinking.
My niece told my sister that she was walking past the pack and play and it fell in there and she couldn’t find me to ask me to get it…. This is complete bs because I was in the kitchen with the both of them the entire time.. but I understand she just didn’t want to get in trouble
Unfortunately this isn’t the first time she has done something like this…. When she was 4 she snuck into her other brothers room who was roughly the same age as this brother and went up to his crib and tried making him eat an Advil. No one knows where she got the Advil from but it was all over his face.
I’m so upset that I didn’t see her giving him the dishwasher pod!! I was RIGHT THERE! But I’d never in a million years think she’d do something like that! The Advil is one thing because she was a lot younger… but she’s 6!!! She absolutely knows better!!!
After her mom went back to work I ended up sending her outside to play on the swing set because she was being…. I don’t even know how to describe it…. She wasn’t doing anything that would make her get in trouble or lose privileges… but she wasn’t behaving either…. I guess she was just pushing buttons
I put my hair up into a bun so it was out of my face and she came up to me after my hair was up and goes “auntie! You need your hair brushed” and tried brushing my hair, while it was up in a bun…. Which 1) hurt like hell and 2) she absolutely knows that that’s not how or when you brush hair
I don’t drink but I just might need one after today
