What are savings for?
So, I'm a SAHM. My husband has a great job that more than provides for us. We aren't rich, but we don't go without and usually have everything we want.
We have about $17,000 in savings. We have a budget, but we tend to go over it a little or something comes up (buying a new car, kids need new car seats, bought a couch we had been waiting to be in stock, etc.) When we go over, we have to dip into savings to pay for everything.
This month we paid off our $4600 vacation that we didn't even enjoy. 🤦♀️ It was so hard paying for that and knowing we could have bought so many more enjoyable things. Haha. But we had other expenses as well, and it went over our $2000 miscellaneous budget for the month. So we had to dip into savings.
I grew up poor. I don't understand money. So I hate watching our savings dwindle. I currently don't contribute financially, so it's hard to watch. Every time the savings account goes down, I cringe. We really don't tap into it by a lot, but I notice.
My husband says I'm silly. He says this is what savings are for. He says we will replenish it with our tax refund, and that it won't be this way when we have two incomes again (when I return to work and the kids are in school). I always felt like savings was something you didn't touch, but I've also never had savings. Haha.
I just get anxious and don't want to spend any money. 😬
After household bills (utilities, mortgage, and car payment), we have a $2000 budget for groceries and miscellaneous. We just always go over. 😬😩
