How do you store avocados?

Question

I recently discovered I like avocados so I bought a few from the store. Are you supposed to keep them in the fridge? I currently have them outside the fridge in the plastic bag.

Leaving in the bag willl ripen them much quicker. 
I never buy more than 4-5 at a time. They’re so picky. 
They do last longer in the fridge but if they need to ripen I will leave them on the counter.

If my avocado is hard and I want them to ripen, I store them in a fruit bowl with bananas (don't know if it's real or an old wives tale). I put them in the fridge if they're close to ripe. And I store half avocados in a loose silicon reusable wrap.

Depends on how long I have to store them for. If it's several days and they're just ripe enough they go in the fridge. If not, they go on the counter.

If they're hard when I gently squeeze them, I leave them out in the counter. If the weather is cold, I cover them and leave them inside a cabinet where it's warmer. 
Once they start getting softer to touch, if I'm not going to eat them that day, I leave them in the fridge until I will eat it. I live in tropical weather tho
