Did you buy stuff while under contract for a house?

We are suppose to be closing on a home on the 19th and would like to get some new things for the place but don’t know if we should wait or if it’s okay to go ahead to start buying stuff. I don’t mean financing I mean paying cash for like home decor and stuff. We are out of underwriting and our loan officer said that our file looks really great So, should we wait or is it okay to start buying some things.

I don’t mean to scare you, but we found out on a Friday, that our closing the following Tuesday got canceled because the person buying our home had their financing fall through last minute. We were literally closing our our new home, when i got the call about our home we were selling… the other person had financing cleared, Through a bank. Things can happen. It’s probably best to hang tight until you sign some paperwork. But congrats!

Something like this happened to us too. Definitely wait until you sign the papers and then go on a shopping spree! 🛍

We bought a few tiny things that didn’t cost much and could easily be returned if needed. No furniture or paint.

I’ve been buying stuff and I haven’t been seriously looking for a house. I mostly get small decor, candles, and toiletries. If you’re too excited and don’t want to wait then I’d try doing that. That’s what’s helping me not get too disappointed about not being able to buy something at the moment

I would mostly just wait so there is less to move. I bought a couple small things before that we needed right away like curtain rods for bedrooms as it was new construction and we needed a few window coverings right away. Congratulations a little early!

House prices are insane where I live and buying a house is a real milestone a lot of people don’t get to achieve. I’d buy something small and sentimental as a reward to celebrate saving up but leave the furniture and fixtures until the ink is dry.

We’re in the same boat and my mortgage guy said to not buy anything until you sign the paperwork. Just because your file looks great doesn’t mean it could change. That’s from him not me. I’m so eager to start but I’m waiting 😑

Wait!!!! I bought new furniture and deco for my new house, everything was great, until the day of closing and then the lender had computer problems, couldn’t issue the paperwork and the seller backed out because they didn’t want to wait until the next business day. I had to move out my ok’d house within 3 days and had to move into a way smaller place where nothing fitted 🤦‍♀️

No. What do you plan to do with everything if the sale falls through? Store it? Sell it for pennies on the dollar? Hope the store has a decent refund policy? It’s not worth it. Just wait.

I bought little things like small Halloween decor because we moved in September and I didn’t want to miss all the new stuff lol but anything big definitely wait until after. Plus just think you’ll have to move extra stuff which nobody wants to do lol
