What color should I paint my kitchen cabinets?

My kitchen has the most hideous granite countertop! I’m looking to paint the cabinets and hopeful make the kitchen look a little more modern.

Also, planning on replacing the backsplash with white herringbone subway tiles:

I would never do white cabinets, especially if you have little ones. They need cleaned constantly to stay bright and pretty. Out of those 2 options I would do black with gold hardware. You can always paint your sink and replace your faucet to match too.
