Self cervix check?

Has anyone done this on themselves? I attempted but I feel like  either not reaching it or something idk. I don't wanna hurt anything either but my doctors office is useless. Id just like some pointers. What are other ways to know if your dilating?

I am a midwife. My midwife colleagues have asked me if I’ve checked myself (currently 37w2d). I haven’t yet but intend to if I feel I need to - but only because I am trained to. If you have checked your cervix during your TTC stage then you are aware of how it should feel. 
The key points:
- ensure hands scrubbed clean - nails short. Any cuts or abrasions on hands do not do it 
- only do if feel safe - able to hold the position and not putting yourself at risk
- only feel edge of cervix - if open do not put finger inside. 
I would honestly leave this to the professionals however I know during COVID it became something women were doing themselves more often.

You shouldn’t do it to yourself. You could hurt yourself or give yourself an infection. It’s really something a doctor has to do.

I’m a labor and delivery nurse so know what I’m feeling for but have definitely checked myself. Super hard to reach 😂 but if you’re curious, it’s your body, you are able to make decisions for yourself and decide if you want to feel what’s going on. You may not be able to feel but who knows, you might! 
Also for the people warning of infection- wash your hands thoroughly, make sure your nails are short, and go for it. If you’re still having sex there’s not much more risk of infection from your own clean hands than another body part 😉

I tried to check myself yesterday in the shower (making sure my hands were extremely clean) but I physically couldn’t reach far enough in there to get to my cervix 😂 my belly was in the way, and my arms are really long! So if anyone is able to successfully do this, props to you! 🤣
