Time to quit my job? Illegal working conditions and breach of contract
I've worked as a contract photographer for a portrait studio for the past 5 years. In the last 2 years they've implemented a change in management which have made changes that significantly contributed to the company's success, but I've faced extreme situations under this new management style. The following are questionable situations I've faced in my employment.
-Last year they assigned mr to work in a building that was shut down due to asbestos, had no heat or running water (including bathroom access) with mandatory overtime with 0 breaks to use the washroom, let alone eat. This was a major health risk and an illegal working environment.
-After, my old manager ostracized me for speaking up against the working conditions and ordered my coworkers to hide the work schedule from me and publicly ridiculed me for having the nerve to speak up.
-This year, the company was 7 weeks late to pay me $150 they owed, and 2 weeks late to pay me another $100.
-Now they are asking myself and my team to take unpaid time to write a reflection assignment on our work to date. Ex: what are top 3 photos are and why, and our worst 3 and why...
I feel like I have a strong case against the company as they have breached their contract and put me in illegal working conditions. Is it time to move on to another job or am I simply overreacting?
