Sweep at 40 weeks? Advice?

Midwife is saying I could have a sweep at 40 weeks if I choose to. I wondered what everyone’s experience of this was or whether you waited to try and go naturally into labour without a sweep? 
Any pros and cons you could share with this?

I was thinking about getting this but my dr did not offer said if i wanted to he would ,but i had to ask. He didnt like doing it saying it doesnt work half the time and is painful for momma so i opted out figured shed come when she was ready. I didnt go into labor till  41+3 .

Congrats, mama, you’re so close! I was considering a sweep at my 40+5 appointment and decided to wait a few more days, and I ended up going into labor that night anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️
For me, the reasons I decided to wait were because I felt ok, baby looked fine, and due dates are an estimate, not an exact science. I wanted an intervention free delivery, so I also wanted to let my body move at its own pace and I trusted that baby would come when it was time. The risks are low with a sweep (there’s always the possibility of introducing bacteria and therefore an infection when you insert something into the vagina, and rarely it can cause your waters to break. It could also cause contractions without actually progressing your labor) and none of the risks seemed worth it to me.
The only reason I considered a sweep at all was because I didn’t want to have to be medically induced, which they would have done at 42 weeks. If my labor hadn’t started at 41+5 I would have gotten a sweep.

I had this with my first child as she was late and I went into natural labour the same day. It was worth it for me, good luck 🤞🏼

I got a sweep with both of mine and each time i had the baby within 24 hours! Now with that said I was 2-3 cm the first time and 3-4 the second and having prodromal labor both time so my body was ready. From what I’ve heard of your body is ready the sweep usually is just that final push you need to go into labor and if your body isn’t ready then it doesn’t do much.

I'm pregnant with my 4th. I've had sweeps with all... Never has a sweep worked for me. I keep doing it hoping it will get things moving but it never does, whether I'm past my due date or not. So really, you can just save yourself the discomfort if your aren't at a point where you are desperate to try anything.
