Nursing & maternity pillow

Question

Are nursing and maternity pillows really that necessary? Our queen bed is pretty cramped as is so I don’t think I have enough space for a maternity pillow. I was thinking a body pillow will be enough. I was also thinking about using the body pillow to nurse when baby comes. I’m probably going to get some type of lounger for baby to lay on so I don’t know if the nursing pillow will last long term but those are just my thoughts. Any advice?

The boppy helps a lot with the shoulder pain I get when nursing. My little guy was early term and takes awhile to eat. I never needed a pregnancy pillow I just used a regular giant body pillow.

Boppy is great for breastfeeding, also can be used on the floor for tummy time, and to help babe sit up.
My favorite is "my breast friend nursing pillow." It is the most comfortable for my back.
These shouldn't be used for sleeping just for helping prop baby up. I place mine by my couch, rocking chair, and in our play room (I own 3 different types lol.) You can use a normal pillow however you would need a few pillows to do the job of one boppy, also super convenient to easily change out the cover when baby spits up as apposed to 3 pillow cases each time. There is a reason they are so popular and it is because they are worth it. Also my husband uses ours to hold baby too and our elderly parents as it really has several good uses.

This is what I used & it helped me a tremendous amount. My husband hated it because it did take up a lot of room, however it helped my back pain & round ligament pain. I have sciatica really bad & pregnancy made it 1000x worse, I would get stuck certain positions & have to wake him up to help me get up because I physically couldn’t move, but this pillow definitely helped me!!

I have been using a wedge pillow like this for under belly while I'm sleeping and it is literally a god send. Only thing that sucks is having to move it when I roll over, but otherwise it has helped soo much.

Honestly it really depends. You’ll figure out if you need something more than a body pillow as your pregnancy goes on but don’t get one just to get one. Same goes for a nursing pillow. I think it really depends on what position winds up working for you. I got the breast friend pillow but wound up being much more comfortable with a football hold on a stack of two regular pillows.

I used a regular body pillow. I hated the 3 different styles of maternity pillows I tried.
A specific nursing pillow isn’t necessary. I just held him on a regular pillow. I tried the boppy and the brest friend and neither did much for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Everyone told me I needed one and I was gifted like 3 different ones. Hated them for nursing honestly. The cats now sleep in one, one is used on the couch during movies and the Boppy we used for play/practicing sitting up but never nursing. But hated the pillows for nursing,  they just hot in the way and took forever to position comfortably. I nurse so much easier without one. All I need is my arm, my baby, and a boob...we are good to go.

I had one boppy in our bedroom and one downstairs so I didn’t have to remember to move it throughout the day depending on where I was nursing. Loved it! And if baby fell asleep while nursing it made it easier to slip my arms out so I could be hands free during her nap on my lap. I used them for the first 3 months or so and loved having them.
I got a C shaped maternity pillow too and it was so comfortable. I never had any back or hip pain during my pregnancy and I really think it’s because I was sleeping in such a comfortable position. I don’t think a straight body pillow would have given as much targeted support, but if it’s what works for you then go for it!

Honestly? I love the boppy pillow for nursing. It doesn’t take up a ton of room and it’s honestly just so nice to have. I bring it with me all day throughout the house and then have jr at night as well. I highly recommend it for nursing. 
I have a love/hate relationship with pregnancy pillow. I go a few weeks loving it, then a few weeks where I get rid of it. I’d say that one isn’t a necessity but it is nice to have

I used one similar to this when I was pregnant and it helped a lot. We also had a queen size mattress and it was crowded but my husband gave me room by sleeping in the spare bedroom. I’d strongly recommend a maternity pillow
