Is it ok to use blankets at 8 months??

I still use a sleep sack for my 8 month old but sometimes, I’ll put a light blanket on her, as we live in a basement suite and it’s super cold during the winter months. I have a graco pack n play that she sleeps in currently, so no open spaces like a crib has. Do you think she should be fine??

Major health organizations recommend waiting until at least 12m and preferably more like 18m, because of the risk of suffocation or strangulation. Feel babe’s neck/chest in the night or in the morning to judge their temperature, they’re probably warmer than you think! And if not, clothing layers, including sleep sacks, are the way to go.

My 8 month old moves around a lot in the cot and I would worry she’d smother if I had a blanket in with her. If you use a sleep sack, they’re warmer than you think-I read that it’s like having a 10tog duvet on yourself. If your room is colder than the lowest below, I suggest trying a fleecy pyjama onesie with the long sleeve vest instead.

People here will say no. It's common practice to use it from newborn where I live. But my daughter moved so much a sleepsack was more efficient tbh. She just kicked it right off 😂

I wouldn't. Our kiddos have rooms downstairs and it gets cold down there, so we installed infrared heaters in each room. They're great! And I can control them from my phone.

Here we use duvets(baby sized) from birth, they even get duvets at the hospital when born. So we followed the guidelines here. We live north of the polar circle, so not using something at night isn't really possible. We used a sleep sack with various level of success with our youngest as he would kick his duvet off during the night.

They say not to til 12 months, but honestly, we started around 6 or so months. A very light blanket over her sleep sack since it was winter and I felt too cold. I was always very cautious when I put it on her tho. Lower on her and not near her face. I checked her camera monitor constantly at first. Do what you’re comfortable with but be careful of course, as I’m sure you will be since you are asking this question anyway!

We used a 2 layer muslin blanket. Even if you bunch it up and put it against your mouth, it's breathable
