TTC around trainings
Hello. My husband is in the national guard. We recently started TTC. He has a training from January 3 through the end of April where he is not allowed to leave base (13 hours from home) and I probably will not be able to visit for a couple reasons. We were hoping to conceive before he leaves so that the baby would come sometime after he's back home. However, if I ovulate on schedule this cycle and we conceive successful, my due date will probably be right around the day he leaves for 2 week annual training. Would you still TTC? Its our first so I'm very nervous about him being gone 2 weeks right when I'm due. He'll likely miss the birth and I'll have to figure out getting myself to the hospital, going through labor alone, getting the baby home, and figuring it all out alone while he misses out on it all. But if we don't try, we may not conceive at all before he leaves and then we he firsts gets back theres a reason we can't try for a few months so it would push TTC back until like next August.
I'm already kicking myself because I ovulated late last cycle and it happened while he was at a 3 day drill and we didn't have sex immediately before he left because I was actually supposed to be starting my period at that time but it came 2 weeks late.
Just curious what you all would do. Many times in military life things happen unexpectedly and many have to give birth while their husband is gone, but would you TTC knowing he will likely be gone for a couple weeks at the birth?
For other NG people, do you think they'd let him miss AT since he will already have 4 months of training in the same year? I've heard other people were allowed to miss for certain reasons but he also says his platoon has an important job at AT and he's the Plt leader.
Also willing to read some tips for how anyone else handled getting through the birth of their first child (aka no experience yet) without their spouse.
