Can I eat Hormel Pepperoni?

Can I eat the shelf stable hormel pepperoni? I put it in a pasta salad and I had tiny bowl before I paused to think if I should be eating it. I realize it’s not the most nutritious thing but this was the only thing I’ve eaten so far today that didn’t make me gag.

Some people will tell you to avoid cold cut meats due to listeria.  I get pretty sick of seeing that because literally any fruit, vegetable, dairy product, cold drink, etc. can have the listeria bacteria on it.  The truth is you are extremely unlikely to get listeria.  It is not common.  I eat lunch meat and all kinds of other cold stuff.  I pretty much only avoid raw fish lol.

The main risk is listeria, which can lead to miscarriage in severe cases. The risk is low, but an outbreak in 2020 spanning several states was traced back to Italian cured meats. Heating it to steaming before eating eliminates the risk. Cold pepperoni is the thing I probably missed the most during pregnancy, but it just wasn’t worth the risk to me.

The only risk with that or any lunch meat is food poisoning. So if you aren’t feeling sick, I wouldn’t worry about it.
