How do you ladies get the 3D/4D ultrasound?

Does your regular ob do those for you or do you have to go to a special dr appointment? does insurance cover them? or normally pay out of pocket?

If there's no medical reason for a 3D ultrasound then no, insurance won't pay for it. Some doctors offer it in office for a fee. It was like $50 for mine. Or You'll have to find a private ultrasound place near you & book one & pay for it.

Insurance usually only covers medically necessary ultrasounds. We went to a boutique ultrasound place at 18 weeks for a gender scan (my husband is not allowed at ultrasound appointments so we wanted to find out the sex of the baby together) and 32 weeks for a 3D/4D scan just for fun. It was $50 for the first scan and $65 for the second scan. The pictures turned out amazing both times and I’m so, so glad we went. We also took our daughter and she loved seeing her little brother on the screen. The 32 week pictures showed a cute pudgy baby and were perfect. The ultrasound tech said they recommend doing those 3D scans before 36 weeks because baby is almost *too* squished to get good pictures if they are much bigger.

My OB did them at my anatomy scan & my growth scan. I also went somewhere private and paid for a 30 min session in 3D/HD.

I got 3D at 9 and 11 weeks at my regular dr, I think it was because I had subchorionic hematomas but I’m not sure. I’m getting an elective one at 23 weeks as well that I’ll be paying out of pocket for.

My insurance covered it and there was no medical reason for it. I just asked at my ultrasound and she switched it to 3D.

My doctors office just did them when I had my regular scans. They never asked if I wanted one, they just flipped the machine into 3D mode and showed us everything in 3D too. I was never once billed or made to pay extra 🤷🏼‍♀️

Personally my doctors did a few 3D images at each scan just so we could see my little ones face.
